[58.0 Audio] Aged Down Event

[Bryn's comm clicks on. It's not on purpose, but someone rolled onto it and then bumped into another body.

That was concerning, considering that Bryn had been aged down to seven years old, not just in body but in mind. Her eyes opened and found a boy laying on the bed across from her. Bryn's reaction was immediate.

With an ear-piercing shriek, she scrambles upright and starts throwing pillows at the intruder. A boy's holler, King aged eight, follows the thud of pillows hitting his head.]

Who are you?

Who are you?

I asked first!

Why are you on my--where am I?

[Bryn goes quiet, though her silence doesn't last long. Lower lip trembling, she sniffles and starts crying as King looks around and notices the strange room.]

You kidnapped me didn't you!

N-no! [Her crying grows significantly more audible.] I want my brother...

[There's a pause.]

Well, okay we'll...we'll go find him. And my sisters too.

[Another loud sniffle.] We will?

Yeah sure, just stop crying, jeez.

[The audio cuts out.]

[Gunn has to stifle a laugh and bites his lower lip.]

I'm 17, Bryn. I can watch over myself now. But you can watch over me too, if you're really worried.

[He stands after a moment, hefting Bryn with him and setting her against his hip.]

Well - you know what, if I can come along too, I'll convince Father and Mother to let him take us.

[He can't get mad at a kid, even if he isn't keen on King.]

Are you hungry, Bryn?

[Bryn bites her lower lip, but lets Gunn pick her up. Her legs hang on either side of his body and she clings as best she can with her arms still around his neck. Bryn is finding that she likes having an older brother instead of a younger one already.]

I don't think he'd mind. He said he wanted a brother and maybe I can share you if you come with us?

[Bryn would totally share Gunn with King as a brother if it meant that Gunn could come with them to Disney World, because then Gunn would convince their parents and that would be the best ever.

Her stomach growls and Bryn nods to his last question.]

Yes, I'm hungry. Can we have some food here?

[She whispers in his ear.]

They have chocolate cake!

[Gunn looks at her and chuckles.]

Sure, I can be, uh, Hannibal's brother too, I guess.

[He likes Bryn better though. He moves over to a table, setting her down in a chair.]

We can totally have cake, but first we need to feed you lunch, yeah? Maybe a sandwich or some pasta? Then you can have cake.

[He's not making you eat veggies at least 8| ]

[Bryn smiles up at Gunn. She can have cake? Gunn's going to feed her lunch? This is the best ever.]

Yes, please!

[Practically chirping her words, Bryn lets her hands rest in her lap as she watches Gunn from her seat.]

Your my brother first though, right?

[Pause.]

You're really big now.

[He grins, going to get her some food. He pauses when she speaks, looking back. His smile is soft.]

Of course I'm your brother first. I'll always be your brother first, yeah?

[And then he laughs slightly.]

I guess I am. It's kinda funny, since you're supposed to be the older one.

[He moves to get food. Can he make a sandwich here? You bet he can.]

Do you want turkey, ham or roast beef?

[Bryn is still totally smiling. This is strange and awesome. She never thought about what it'd be like to have an older brother, but so far she kinda liked it. He was making her food and said that he was still her brother first.]

Oh good. Can I still call myself your older sister even though you're bigger than me?

[Bryn contemplates the options that Gunn gives her, looking at the meat as she nibbles on her lower lip. Her feet don't quite touch the ground, and she swings them back and forth beneath her chair.]

Turkey, please!

[Gunn actually outright laughs this time.]

I think you can. You can be my currently-younger older sister.

[He nods approvingly of her choice.]

Do you want cheese? Lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayonnaise, mustard?

[Yup, this is officially awesome. Never underestimate a child's ability to focus on cool stuff to avoid thinking of the scary things like their being abducted and without their parents, etc.]

I get to boss you around like an older sister too right?

[Bryn looks at the buffet spread from her seat, and as she thinks her legs stop swinging. This is a very important decision after all.]

Lettuce...tomato, and mayonnaise. Mustard and pickles are gross.

[That's what Gunn was counting on, really.]

Sure, why not. But I'm bigger than you right now, so I might pick you up and toss you over my shoulder.

[He winks slightly, and then listens.]

No pickles or mustard, got it.

[He makes the sandwich for Bryn, and then one for himself too. He grabs a slice of cake for her as well, figuring he can finish it off if she doesn't eat the whole thing.]

You want any soda? Juice?

[Bryn's jaw drops and her mouth forms that classic little 'O' of shock and outrage.]

But that's not fair! You already get to be bigger.

[Still, soon enough Bryn is mollified. There is the best looking sandwich in front of her, a slice of cake, and...]

I can have soda?

[Clearly, today is Christmas.]

Can I drink it out of the can?

[Gunn doesn't comment on the first part.

To the second, he nods sagely.]

You can even drink it out of the can.

[Splee! Soda out of the can. Father and Mother would never let her do this.

That older!Gunn is giving her permission means that she can't get in trouble for this too, even if they find out!]

Which one should I have?

[This is the best ever. Bryn can barely contain her excitement.]

[Yeeeep.]

Well... root beer doesn't have any caffeine, but I suppose I could let you have a coke or a sprite though.

Sprite please?

[Armed with a brother-made sandwich, sprite, and a slice of chocolate cake (that Gunn did have to finish off because it was just too much for her), Bryn enjoys her lunch. Her feet continue swinging back and forth as she eats until at last she can't possibly fit another bite in her stomach.

Bryn has some chocolate frosting on her mouth but she doesn't seem to notice. She looks to Gunn expectantly.]

Do you think that there's somewhere we could go see a movie?

[Gunn collects their plates, also grabbing a napkin to hand to Bryn once he notices the chocolate frosting.]

There's movies in the library; do you want to go there?

[Bryn obediently wipes her mouth with the napkin, folds it, and places it on her plate before Gunn gets too far away with it. Then, she practically bounces from her chair and more or less glues herself to Gunn's side.]

People watch movies in the library?

[He looks down at her when she latches onto him with a small smile.]

Yeah, they do. They've got a big TV in there and everything, plus a lot of movies. Some you haven't even heard of.

[He disposes of the plates and trash, and then offers Bryn a hand to hold.]

Ready to go?

[She takes his hand eagerly, unable to keep from swinging it back and forth with her excitement.]

I'm ready!

[Bryn bites her lip, trying to contain the next question she wants to ask because really it wouldn't be right of her to request anything. In the end however, she simply can't keep it to herself.]

C-can we watch that one with the mermaid? And the dolphin?

[It's only her favorite movie ever.]

[He begins leading her towards the library. At her request, though, he smiles again.]

Sure. I'm sure they've got it somewhere in their collection.

I know it's only your favorite movie. [He's teasing her now.]

[Bryn just beams up at Gunn. He might be teasing but at this point she really doesn't care.]

Well you don't have a favorite movie yet. You're only three.

[As far as Bryn knows, Gunn is only in a bigger body. Clearly she is the older and wiser one. There is no logic to her thinking at all. It bends and molds to her wishful thinking easily enough.

Bryn continues to chatter at Gunn as they walk. There's nothing but absolute ease in her body language and tone of voice. Not only does Gunn have her affection, but her complete trust.]

Hey, I've got a couple movies I like.

[He's content to let her think that, as he leads her to the library. It tugs at his heart, painfully, to watch her smile and chatter at him. He knows they're in a better situation than they were when he arrived on board, but when things like this happen... well.

They arrive at the library, and Gunn leads her to the DVD player.]

Liking them isn't the same as them being your favorites.

[Bryn talks with the confident authority that children have when they haven't yet grasped that there is an amazing amount they don't know about well...everything. She is seven and that makes her worldly and wise.

She looks at the DVD player when they arrive, and then to Gunn.]
