[006] Truthiness

~Part One~

[It had been a few days since Bryn had gone on her late night stroll around the Keep grounds, and a bit longer still since she had confessed to Alex her secret. Surprisingly, nothing had gone wrong. Alex had greeted her news with joy, and most of the other guests she had run into in her other form had been rather pleasant, if not completely intrigued and fascinated. Their reactions had all gone a long way toward making Bryn feel more comfortable with who she was.

With her intention to enjoy her other form more, Bryn knew it would be wise to get this informate out into the open sooner rather than later. That she hadn't been attacked on the basis of some perceived need for self-defense had been very lucky.

Before all of that, however, Bryn made her way down to the kitchens to find Joe. He had been the only one to suspect her secret, and scared, she'd denied it. How convincing she'd been was up for debate, but she owed it to him to at least tell the truth before making a Keep-wide announcement.]

~Part Two~

[After speaking with Joe, Bryn cracked open her record and took a deep breath. She set her entry up for video, and offered a hesitant, nervous smile.]

Hi everyone. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Bryn. I've uhm, been here for a while and...well okay. [Deep breath!] I just...thought I should let you all know that I'm a shapeshifter. I can turn into a cougar. I know some of you are familiar with, ah, other shifters at the Keep but I don't lose myself at the full moon so, well. The point I'm trying to get to is that I'm safe to be around and I won't attack anyone so please don't be alarmed if you see me around.

And well, I know some of you have questions so, I'll be be in the Keep up in that little gallery above the hall if...well, anyone wants to find me. There's a little harpsichord up here...

[She pressed a couple keys, which make little plinking noises, and then the entry stopped.]

Well, my apologies then.

And no, not at all. Stranger things than known to man than that.

Though I may have to rethink the nickname 'pet' for you then.

[For the moment she's glad he can't see her face, and the mix of emotions that rise from the mention of that nickname. After a moment's pause, she writes, taking care with her words.]

I am glad to hear that.

You would have to decide that for yourself, I think. However, it does not offend me if that was a concern.

[And that's all she'll say on the matter, as she isn't quite brave enough to encourage nicknames, and she hardly wishes to discourage him either.]

Good to know - but then there is also the pure potential for puns. Kitten, kitcat, et cetera.

[ He won't actually use any of those. Maybe kitten. ]

~~Are you from~~ [ This is scribbled out, but still gets posted. ]

The next time we meet, I may ask you some questions about it, if you aren't opposed.

Yes, I suppose there is...

[Yes, definitely glad he can't see her face right now.]

I'm not at all opposed to questions. You can ask me anything you like.

[Bryn's writing pauses momentarily, before she scribbles out:]

Would you like to meet up sometime today?

Well now, giving me free reign may be a bit dangerous.

[ FULL OF CHEEK HE IS. ]

If you feel up to it, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to speak to you today.

Would you prefer I give you a set of rules and limitations instead?

[That actually didn't sound stupid. Bryn was surprised at herself.]

But yes, of course. I could meet you somewhere if you'd like.

[ That reminds him of Arthur, actually. ]

Well, then I'd certainly have a guide for when I am crossing lines.

[ He thinks. ]

I've no particular inclination anyplace, so you can choose.

I think if I draw lines you might go out of your way to cross them for fun, Eames.

[She's so glad she's not trying to say this, or she would be stammering through it the entire time.]

I'm in the library now if you'd like to come ask your questions.

Well, that's the fun of lines, isn't it? Rules made to be broken and all that.

[ But with that, he leaves his journal locked in his room - after looking up where the library is - and then goes to look for Bryn. He's dressed for the period (http://www.tomhardyparty.com/gallery/albums/screencaps/VQ/normal_PDVD_780.PNG) again, the open collar of the shirt allowing his Keep tattoo to be seen.

Entering the library, he smirks and bows as soon as he knows Bryn has spotted him. ]

I can't say I've enjoyed that aspect of lines before.

[Or at least, that's what she thinks, having conveniently forgotten her running in the fountain drunk in only her chemise, or the fact that she drinks under the age of twenty-one.

When Eames arrives, Bryn finds herself somewhat stunned for a moment. He certainly managed to put together an outfit rather well. She gaped a moment, before managing a curtsy in response.]

I...I see you managed well enough with the spare clothing.

[ After the introduction, during which Eames keeps his smirk on, he lets it turn into a smile. ]

It's wonders what some theatre classes in high school will teach you. I trust you're finding yourself well so far?

[Bryn hadn't taken theater classes ever, having been enrolled in a music theory class instead, but she thought wistfully that it might have been a lot of fun if she had.]

Very well, all things considered. So far no one has reacted negatively to my announcement which is what I had hoped for. And you?

[ Eames nods as he listens, and rubs a hand over the jacket as he speaks. ]

I think it'd be rather idiotic of them to respond as if you're something to be feared - I assume you have it quite under control.

And oh, learning things, gathering supplies; observing, mostly.

Though that does lead into my first question... Are you aware of a man named Alex, here?

Well, some of them have a right to fear shapeshifters, considering not everyone has control at all times, unfortunately.

[She doesn't bring up Alex's incident, especially considering Eames has brought him up. At his mention, Bryn smiles, broadly and without reservation, and nods.]

Alex is one of my friends...the first person I told, actually.

[ 'Not everyone has control at all times.' That interesting tidbit is filed away for later mulling, and Eames smiles easily in response. ]

Wonderful. I was wondering if the two of you are from the same - world, I guess would be the term?

I wish.

[She gave him a wry smile.]

From what Alex has told me, weres are out to the public. The Earth I came from, well, if there were other weres or shifters or whatever you would call us, I didn't know. Until I was here, I had been in hiding.

[ He sighs. ]

I thought there might have been some common denominator there... I guess not. Where I'm from, I've never run into any of your kind - though that doesn't preclude the possibility of them existing.

[ Most people don't even know dream sharing exists where he's from... ]

All the same, your announcement and trepidation make more sense, now.

I thought it might. It might seem quite out of the blue to some who have just arrived, without proper context but to many it...my clarifications were necessary.

[Bryn wet her lips with the tip of her tongue.]

Did you have any other questions? I suppose you're trying to look for commonalities among everyone's worlds, yes?

[She should have suspected that was what he was after.]

[ He nods, and then laughs slightly. ]

Actually, no. I was just wondering if you were all from the same world, having the same ability. It seems we've a mishmash of people here though.

[ He hums slightly, thoughtful. ]

Most of my questions are sheer nosiness, really. I've seen how Alex shifts; does yours function much the same? And is your headspace the same, or is it different - are you thinking like yourself or more like a big cat?

[ Because, well, to forge someone you have to get into their headspace; to retain yourself but give part of yourself over to that idea. Forging animals hasn't been something Eames has attempted, just based off the different idea of a headspace. ]

It's similar in terms of the actual mechanics, I believe, but I couldn't be sure. We haven't done any in-depth comparison just yet.

[She wet her lip briefly.]

Our head-spaces are slightly different. I believe Alex has more in the way of animal instincts than I do. Enough so that he's...not himself with the full moon, whereas I always have firm control of myself.

[She sounds sympathetic, not at all envying Alex's unfortunate loss of self at the full moon.]

Well, if you ever do - I'd be fascinated to watch.

[Innuendo there is no innuendo there.]

So for you it's more of a physical shift than a mental one, wheras Alex has both.

[ There's a small undertone of fascination in Eames' tone, and briefly he wishes for a PASIV - to show Bryn what he can do and to practice that type of thing himself, but he shakes it off after a moment. ]

Would you mind terribly if I asked to see you in your form at some point?

[The idea of Eames watching her change forms brings an immediate blush to her face and she looks away nervously.]

I wouldn't mind you watching except that the transformation is...ah...it's very...revealing. My clothes don't shift with the rest of me.

[Bryn couldn't be sure if he was implying more, so it was easier to respond as if he hadn't just given the impression he wanted to see her...well...undressed.]

But I wouldn't mind at all if you wanted to. I'm very comfortable in my other form and...if you liked I could just let you know when I planed to change again?

[ Ah, blushing. Given how nervous she was about telling people what she is, she's clearly not as open about it as Alex was.

So he merely nods. ]

Whatever you're comfortable with, my dear.

[ He shoots her a small smile. ]

I know I'm being terribly nosy with my curiosity, but shifting is something I have a bit of a fascination with, you could say.

[She just isn't accustomed to getting naked in front of handsome men. Hell, she isn't accustomed to getting naked or even topless in front of anyone.]

It's quite alright. I did invite the questions after all. So what is your fascination? Do you....do you have your own experience with some of what Alex and I can do?

[ Eames hesitates for the briefest of seconds, and then - well, it's either his subconscious or he's stuck here, so.

As long as he omits specific parts of his job. ]

Similar but perhaps not equatable. Where I come from, there's technology that allows people to share dreams together. One of the skills you can have if you're very talented is the ability to change your appearance and voice - forging, we call it, and the people who do it forgers.

Which, as you may guess, I am a forger. But I've only ever done humans, not animals, so I was wondering about it a bit.
