[011] New Beginnings

[Bryn carefully opens her journal and starts a video feed. She's actually walking around the Keep at the moment, too happy, too energetic to stay in one place, so the scene behind her moves and changes as she speaks.]

Hi everyone. It's January first and I just wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year! It's...it's not always easy to be here, considering some of the stuff that happens but for what it's worth, I'm happy to be here if nothing else than because of so many of you that are in my life now.

[It's a rather mushy sentiment, and her parents wouldn't approve of such a display of emotion in public, but Bryn didn't care. Her resolution this year was to take more chances, to open up more, and to try and live the way she wanted to, not the way she'd been taught to.]

May this next year bring you all happiness.

[As much as could be had in this place and set of circumstances they'd been dropped in.]

Ah, sorry, I keep forgetting to introduce myself. I'm Jacob, nice to meet you, Bryn. Or talk to, at least.

It's fine, I usually ask if I have no issue just asking people! Have you been here at the Keep long?

I...think its about a month and a half now? I showed up after halloween but not too long after it, and well before the winter started.

Oh, well, I suppose a welcome is a bit late but it's nice to finally meet you, Jacob. Have you been settling in okay?

I think so, but I'm not really certain I can say in a place like this. I haven't had any trouble yet, though, or nothing terrible at least.

I'm glad to hear it. Not everyone has gotten so lucky, from what I understand...

The only trouble I've been here for was...whatever that was where we lost the light for a few days. And I guess some people might consider the snow trouble. I'm going to try my best to stay lucky, though.
I hope you can, too, if that's what you want.

It's safe to say that's what I want too. My luck has been...pretty good lately. Just hope it holds up.

Earth. Well, a version of earth, at least, in the united states. I gather mine's not all that much like other people's.

*Well, it didn't seem all that different to him, but everybody sure seemed surprised to see a hybrid.*

Also Earth but yes, it's not necessarily the same version it seems. I'd like to say it seems fairly normal but for an exception or two but my view is entirely subjective I suppose.

Yeah, I think mine is normal and all the other ones are weird, but I don't think anyone agrees with me. Maybe we can just say everyone's is normal.

Or perhaps there simply isn't any normal. It's all a matter of perspective in the end.

This isn't abnormal. Kind of rare, but certainly not unheard of.

[Her eyes widen at the display of wings, and her mouth opens slightly in shock and awe.]

Oh my--oh they're beautiful.

[Bryn had to privately admit to herself that after meeting Isabella, she had been somewhat envious. Having wings or turning into something with them would be wonderful...]

Why thank you. I try to take good care of them.

*It was rather nice that people here who had no experiance with hybrids were so welcoming.*

Does it take a lot of effort? Can...can you fly with them?

I have to preen them regularly, less often if I'm careful and don't get dirty.
Yeah, I can fly with them. I can't carry much, though.

I would imagine not...it's likely a task enough to carry the rest of you.

I guess, we are quite a bit bigger than most birds.

Are the wings...is that common where you're from? A trait of your people or something of that nature?

Well, where I come from sometimes magic creates hybrids between species. My family are all human/crow hybrids...so its normal for us but most people are just humans. Hybrids are the minority, but most everybody at least knows about them.

Oh, how interesting! What other kinds of hybrids are there? Are they family-based?

[Curious Bryn is curious! It's supernatural and animal-related!]
